The start of Patch & Denim
Nicole, a self-taught artist from the state of New Jersey (USA) - who grew up on the picturesque shores of Nantucket Island - launched Patch & Denim in 2021 as a way to reconnect with her creative side after becoming a mother. The challenges and joys of motherhood prompted her to seek an artistic outlet that allowed her to blend creativity with her love of family.
Her breakthrough came when she discovered the art of making Lone Star quilts - a design that resonated with her due to its bold and intricate pattern.
Inspired by the quilt’s symmetry and elegance, she began experimenting with transferring the design onto denim, the fabric known for its durability and timeless appeal. This was the beginning of Patch & Denim, a brand that combines quilting artistry with the rugged beauty of denim.
The Patch & Denim Philosophy
Patch & Denim is all about transforming timeless designs into wearable art, combining traditional craftsmanship with personal expression to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Each handcrafted piece reflects the passion for creativity, craftsmanship, and personal expression, standing out as wearable art with a story to tell.
Sustainability and Patch & Denim
Sustainability plays a key role in Nicole's approach to her work. Influenced by her brother, who is a sustainability director, Nicole strives to incorporate eco-conscious practices into her brand. By 2025, she plans to join the movement ‘1% for the Planet’, an organization dedicated to supporting environmental causes. She also reuses fabrics and denim jackets, always mindful of minimizing her carbon footprint.
Beyond Jackets: What's Next for Patch & Denim?
At the moment Patch & Denim currently focuses on jackets, but is also exploring other denim products like bags and pillows and is experimenting with denim pants for future launches.
